Watch out for Freshers’ Fraud 👀

Every year, fraudulent social media pages claim to sell ‘official’ events tickets to Lancaster freshers. The only official tickets, packs and wristbands will be sold by Lancaster University Students’ Union and the colleges at www.lancastersu.co.uk or the Sugarhouse via Eventbrite.

Whoever you are, wherever you come from, whatever you’re into, you’re welcome here. Moving to uni and starting your next chapter is (sometimes) a rocky road but we’ll be here for you every step of the way.

  • Well, you’ve made it to the right place, great start.

We are your Students’ Union and to be honest, we’re completely obsessed with everything student life. We’re made up of every single student, including you, and we work all year round to make your experience at Lancaster the best it can be. We’re not the University, in fact we’re a completely separate organisation, so we can stand up and say the things that you might not get the chance to.

Uni life is so much more than your degree and we also run tonnes of opportunities including clubs and societies, volunteering, events and more. Check out this site for everything you need to know to make the best start but don’t forget that this is just the beginning, there’ll be opportunities to get involved all year so don’t feel you hve to do it all at once.

  • Welcome back bestie. We hope you had a great summer but we’re definitely ready to get back into some kind of routine. Before that, you may be wondering if you can get involved in all of the Freshers fun… yes, you can!

Most events through the week will be open to all students looking to try something new and meet new people though priority may go to new students at some college events.

Freshers’ Fair is Wednesday 4th October at the Sports Centre and everybody’s welcome.

The Sugarhouse is open to all students every night of Freshers’ Week. Entry is not guaranteed and some nights may require a valid ticket purchased in advance.

  • First of all, thank you for choosing Lancaster - we’re so excited to welcome you to our lively campus. We have an incredible international community at Lancaster and we’re so excited for you to join us. You will have the opportunity to get involved in a range of opportunities and experience student life in the UK to its fullest. We can also connect you with other students from a similar background through our range of international and cultural societies.

We also know that sometimes issues facing international students are unique which is why we have dedicated representation through our International Students’ Officer.

  • Whether you’re a Lancaster pro continuing for a Masters, joining us from elsewhere or researching for your PhD you are also a member of LUSU and we’re here to represent you. All are welcome at Students’ Union events and we’d encourage you to come by including Freshers’ Fair and the Sugarhouse.

We know that issues facing postgraduate students can be distinct and life can be intense. We have a dedicated representative for Postgraduate & Mature Students who you can read more about at the link.

  • Welcome! We’re so glad you’ve chosen to come to Lancaster and want you to know that you’re very welcome here. Whether you’re studying for a career change or here for your first degree, it’s never too late to explore your passion, meet new people and try new things.

It may feel that campus and Freshers’ Week is full of younger faces but age is just a number and we promise you’re welcome so get involved!

Sometimes mature students face challenges that are different to our other students. Maybe you have caring responsibilities or just want to meet other students in a similar age bracket? We have a dedicated representative for Postgraduate & Mature Students who will represent your voice and help build your community. Get in touch!

  • We know that the cost of living crisis is making times especially tough for students and you may be worried about affording your time at Lancaster.

Your Students’ Union is committed to helping you out so that you can have the best possible University experience. Recent student officers won over £2.2 million of funding to support student through the cost of living crisis - we’ve got your back.

We will keep money in your pockets wherever we possibly can which is why as many of our Freshers’ events as possible are free entry. Where we do need to charge for something commercial, we will keep prices as low as we possibly can, such as the cheapest meal deal on campus in our Central Supermarket.

There are a range of bursaries and funds available across the University to support you both in getting by when things are really tough or if you’re worried about affording a sports club or society.

Lancaster loves a free food event and you’ll see lots of these across the year in your college and Students’ Union. Take advantage and come along to these to bag a free meal including weekly Supper and Breakfast Clubs in the SU.

You can read more about support available in our Cost of Living Hub.

We’ll say the things you don’t get the chance to say. We’ll stand up for your rights all year round. We’ll keep you and your voice at the beating heart of campus ✊

We are led by a team of student officers and hundreds of student volunteers like you. We have two types of student officers at LUSU - FTOs and LCOs. FTOs are your Full Time Officers and you guessed it, they work full-time to make your student life better. FTOs may be recent graduates or have paused their studies for the year to represent you. They’re the top leaders of the SU and will work for the year to represent your views to the University, run campaigns to deliver change and support the work of our incredible student volunteers.

Speaking of volunteers, LCOs are your Liberation & Campaign Officers. They work alongside their studies to represent students in specific marginalised communities which are LGBTQ+, Postgraduate & Mature, International, Racial & Ethnic Minority, Women+ and Students with Disabilities.

If you want to see change in the SU, University or community then just come and have a chat - it’s really that simple. Whether it’s a small suggestion that we fix on the day or you fancy starting the next biggest petition in LUSU history, have a brew with an elected officer or member of staff and we’ll set you on the right course. Read more about your officers here.

Welcome Reps are like your uni older siblings or mates in the year above.

When you start Lancaster you’ll meet a bunch of Welcome Reps. They’re current students who’ve lived at least a year of life in Lancaster already and they’re here to give you the insider take and make sure you have the best possible start to your university life. At their training, we asked Reps for their top tips for thriving at Lancaster. Click through below for some of what they had to say 👇

Unleash your inner Swiftie 💗

(…other interests are available)

There are over 200 different student groups at Lancaster and there is seriously something for everyone from Swift to Sociology. You’ll find all of our student groups at the Freshers’ Fair on Wednesday 4th October where you can find out more, give it a go and sign up.

We know that students who get involved in activities are happier, healthier and do better in their studies (first class, baby) so set yourself a challenge and try something new.

We also run sport at all levels from purely recreational to highly competitive BUCS teams who represent Lancaster across the country. The sporting event of the year is Roses; the largest inter-varsity tournament in Europe and a rivalry that goes back hundreds of years between Lancaster and York.
