About the Campaign
The cost of being a student is rising, and for many of us, balancing rent, bills, food, travel and other essentials is becoming increasingly difficult. Getting to university is an important part of student life, but the cost of commuting can add another significant financial pressure.
At Lancaster University, daily parking can cost £6. For someone commuting five days a week over 30 teaching weeks, this could amount to £900 a year just to park. That's money that could otherwise go towards food, rent, bills or other essential costs.
For students who rely on their cars because of where they live, caring responsibilities, work commitments, disability or limited public transport options, parking is not always a choice or a convenience. It can be an essential part of accessing university.
This campaign aims to better understand how parking costs affect Lancaster students and their ability to access university. We want to hear from students about their experiences, the challenges they face and what would make a meaningful difference to them.
By gathering students' voices and experiences, we hope to build a clearer picture of the impact of parking costs, particularly on those experiencing financial hardship, and use this evidence to inform constructive conversations with Lancaster University about student parking and affordability.
This is about listening to our student community, understanding the range of circumstances people face and working together towards a fairer experience for everyone.
Are you a member of staff who parks on campus? We want to hear from you too!
We believe that campus parking should be fair for everyone who uses it.
“Campus should be a place that is easily accessible for everyone, I want to hear how you are struggling with car parking and how we can help!”
